The mission of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church is to worship our Lord, give hope and instruct all persons that they would be saved and equipped to become disciples of Jesus Christ.

Pastor's Statement

On the crest of a Mountain, the resurrected Christ Jesus has assembled his disciples and in this discourse shares with them what has been labeled, by the Christian church, as the great commission. It was a moment of mixed emotions, ranging from worship to doubt, as these followers from diverse walks of life heard him say, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.” These words still ring in the ears of the modern believers and drive us forward as never before to address this task to which we were commissioned.

As pioneers of this new century, this new frontier with the technological advances, we have opportunities that have never existed among the preceding generations; we can now touch the distant regions of our globe for Christ. As African American Christians we must continue our struggle for civil rights and our battle for racial equality while equipping and enabling the saints yet, never losing sight of the distant goal to win the world for Christ, always mindful of His promises to be with us even to the close of the age.
